Coffee table Kiltapp

“One of my basic rules when putting together furniture is to avoid metal fittings wherever possible. Instead, I often make the design and construction clear by using tried and tested methods of craftsmanship in plain sight. Kiltapp is Swedish for a wedged through mortise and tenon joint, a way of joining wood where a solid tenon running all the way through the joint, is fixed in place with a wedge glued into a sawn channel. When the glue has dried, the surface is polished completely even and the joint appears in all its glory.

I like the balance of these tables; with their anatomical legs; slender at the bottom and chunkier at the top for solid stability. The table comes in three heights, all of which can be combined with each other, perhaps with their tops overlapping in layers. But the table is just as beautiful in lonely majesty.”
